The eighth and final installment of the EDI Celebration Series will be broadcast live on December 15 at 1:00 pm EST. For December’s event, Michelle Vandevord, Associate Director for Saskatchewan First Nations Emergency Management and the first woman named president of the Aboriginal Firefighters Association of Canada, will share her career experiences and recommendations for increasing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the fire service.

Michelle Vandevord, AFAC President and Associate Director, Saskatchewan First Nations Emergency Management 

Michelle Vandevord, a Cree woman from Muskoday First Nation, is the first female president of the Aboriginal Firefighters Association of Canada. She assumed the helm in August 2020 and is also the  associate director for Saskatchewan First Nations Emergency Management in Prince Albert. Michelle was instrumental in the development of the Indigenous Fire Safety Council. She has been a firefighter for more than 20 years and is a mother, kookum, mentor and trailblazer for women in fire and emergency management and beyond.
